The Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Justice for All: Courts and the Community Learning Center in Manhattan, planned an interiors renovation of an existing classical law library. A new high-tech Learning Center with integrated conferencing and podcasting was planned at the current National centerpiece courthouse building. The Second Circuit is well known as the focal point for such litigation as the 1980’s Major League Baseball strike, the trial of the Rosenberg’s for treason, and mafia kingpin convictions.
The theme of the new library learning center is “Justice for All.” At the grand opening, Chief Judge of the Second Circuit, Robert Katzmann acknowledged PSE‘s effort in providing a highly regarded finishes and technically balanced educational space that is anticipated by the courts to be used by over thousands of visitors.
PSE’s AV/IT Consulting Practices Design Studio developed a technology program that underpinned the needs of the Court Architect, the CEO, and the Justice’s staff while embracing simple yet immersive technology platforms. Our challenge was to provide complete digital library access through;
- Multiple touchscreens, with self-guided learning stations and ‘cones-of-silence’,
- Automated functionality for pre-selected programs linked to server databases,
- Pre-configured video conferencing with full audio capabilities,
- An isolated area for live broadcasting and recording live digital podcasts.
The team spent intensive research and creative time, sharing concepts, designs, technologies, and layouts with Justice Staff to acknowledge direction and planning. This allowed tight control over the soft interfaces required to control and house the customized A/V systems, while furnishings and touch displays tightly integrate into prefabricated DIRTT wall architecture. The clean appearance and functionality provide a seamless interior which realizes the using groups’ education rubrik as multimedia arts.
The refinement of tailored AV/IT design provided impressively uniform, zero-bezel/zero-reveal appearance and functionality, leading to a uniform, glossy, fatigue-free look.
The project included the design of infrastructure and equipment required to support advanced features such as A/V display and presentation, touchscreen control, video conferencing, teleconferencing, digital touch-exhibits, and video wall control with impressive sound while start-up and commissioning services provided expert testing and equalization.
Behind the brilliant panels’ edifice are combinations of PC’s, microchip embedded servers, video conferencing equipment, touchscreen and video control equipment, and digital signal audio processing filters.
