Trumbull County Adult Justice Center staff and detainee safety became a top priority after Professional Systems Engineering, LLC (PSE)’s Assessment report exhibited security and redundancy upgrades’ needs. The renovation project includes two phases. First; updating mission-critical emergency generator systems. Second; updating obsolete security technology.
The generator was replaced after bid award – both on-line and on-time – in 30 days. It was just one of over 200 large (>500 KW) generator systems PSE’s Chief Engineer has tailored to meet critical owner/user specifications.
The existing 600KW generator had reached its recommended life span. PSE provided design for a new turbocharged diesel generator system, including a built-in 48-hour fuel tank, remote monitoring, new critical infrastructure, and sequencing with NFPA 110 Level 1 capabilities.
The entire facility is 180,000 SF. PSE worked with the facility staff and Sheriff’s office for a smooth implementation, delivering specifications and construction drawings.
In this first phase of construction, PSE was brought on to provide review of contractor submittals and construction administration for the new emergency generator system.
Compliance with Ohio State Fire Marshall fuel and emergency transfer power requirements and NEC were mandatory and met without exception. The design allowed for a temporary trailer mounted genset with temporary high-voltage lead-ins to existing switchgear during the short dismantling and placement period. This resolved all “down-time” issues.
The new emergency generator system was hoisted successfully into place. A weatherproof enclosure, lighting package and sound controlled exhaust were also specified.
Combined with new UPS stations, this will allow the entire facility to continue functioning without power interruption.
New systems are designed to allow for easy Maintenance by County personnel and contracted maintenance. This will keep the system’s overall lifetime costs at a minimum for the County.
