In honor of Engineers Week, PSE will receive an Honorable Mention Award this Saturday evening in Philadelphia, PA, February 25, 2023, by PSPE at the Outstanding Engineering Awards Banquet for technology designs of the New Dayton Avenue Educational Campus Early Childhood Center located in Passaic, NJ.
PSE as Engineer-of-Record for
Security and Technology
Design and Engineering
With parental concerns for children, bullying, and the wide availability of guns, today’s schools include integrated physical and electronic security monitoring and communications technology design to help administrators manage school environments safely. PSE staff accomplished this for the entire campus, including a Central Emergency Control Center meeting Department of Homeland Security recommendations with a secondary security center for extended needs.
High-speed 10GB fiber optical backbones provide wired and wireless communications infrastructure for administration, education, and, importantly, voice, video, and access control security.
Today’s childhood development and middle schools require entertainment technology and sensory space – music, art, clay – systems for healthy physical and cognitive development. Systems include digital intercom and sound, zoned and emergency paging, VOIP phone systems with emergency call buttons, digital clocks, audio/visual systems, and a Blackbox theater with sound, video, and lighting. Additionally, there is a theater, auditorium, science lab, and cafetorium.
The scope of the $163,000,000 construction cost of the 4 schools is best represented “in the numbers.”
New Dayton Avenue Educational Campus – By the Numbers
Please join us in acknowledging this engineering achievement – one that took over 10 years of planning by the School District and the State. Along with years of diligent work by contractors, architects, engineers, designers, manufacturers, distributors, school personnel, and delivery truck drivers.
- 4 – Number of schools built in this one project
- 10 – Early delivery in months – through Design/Build Excellence
- 12 – Acres of developed land with 5+ acres under roof
- 448,000 – Gross square feet of campus facilities
- 2,760 – Number of students in the 4 schools
- $350 – Cost per square foot of landscape, security, design, buildings, and systems
- $9,000,000 – Security/communications infrastructure and systems specified by PSE
All for the most important and cherished ones – our children.
