Project: Security and Communications Design Services

Scope of Work: Professional Systems Engineering, LLC is providing design/consulting services for security, holding/detention control systems, courts security and allied building security communications.

PSE has had substantial experience in both new and historic courthouse systems design. Past historic renovation projects include Luzerne County Courthouse, PA; Delaware County Courthouse, PA; Bergen County Courthouse, NJ; and many others. Newer courthouses include Lehigh County, PA and Jefferson County, NY.

The Kent County Courthouse complex addition will included courts and judicial support spaces at the existing courthouse complex. The existing courthouse will only have renovations to three (one ceremonial and two courts, all renovated) existing courtrooms. The renovations at the courthouse will be in two phases. Phase I, will include a new structure and have a lobby, five new courts (1st Floor – 1 shelled; 1 jury assembly room; 2nd Floor – four new, one arraignment room, 1 shelled room), jury assembly, holding space for criminal defendants, filing, superior and appellate courts, attorneys’ spaces, and judges’ chambers/support spaces. Phase II will include renovation of historic court spaces. Total space includes 120,000 sq. ft. of new and 40,000 sq. ft. of renovated courts space in the historic district.
